SoundWell — Exploring How Our Environments Shape Wellbeing
It all begins with a sensation
Welcome to Soundwell—Exploring How Our Environments Shape Wellbeing
SoundWell is a nature-based research and exploration hub examining how the environments around us, including natural sounds, sensory experiences, and the places we spend time, can shape our sense of wellbeing, connection, and regulation.
Grounded in ecopsychology, Soundwell honours our coevolution with the natural world and the ways nature’s soundscapes can offer calm, clarity, and a sense of belonging. You're welcome to explore at your own pace; this space is here to support your nervous system, your curiosity, and your connection to the more-than-human world.
Nature Therapy - Walk and Talk
This interest in the relationship between people and their environments also informs my clinical work. I offer nature-based walk-and-talk therapy, providing an option to step outside the traditional therapy room and have counselling while walking outdoors.
Moving through a natural environment can introduce a different sensory and physical context for therapeutic work. Rather than sitting face-to-face in an office, we can walk alongside one another, notice what is happening around us, pause when something catches our attention, and allow the environment to become part of the experience.
For some people, walking can feel more natural or comfortable than sitting still and maintaining eye contact. For others, being outdoors may offer helpful sensory variation, movement, space, or a greater sense of ease. We can also pay attention to how your body responds to different environments and what supports you to feel grounded, engaged, or at ease.
Walk-and-talk therapy is not about forcing a connection with nature or assuming that being outdoors is inherently regulating. Instead, it offers another therapeutic environment—one that we can explore together and adapt to your needs.
Offered in person in the Quw’utsun Valley, or via phone call only.
Why our Environments Matter
We often think about wellbeing as something that happens inside the individual. Yet our experiences are continually shaped by the environments we move through.
A busy room can feel different from a quiet forest. A familiar place can evoke something different from an unfamiliar one. The sounds around us may invite attention, signal safety or change, bring up memories, or simply become part of the background of our experience.
Natural environments offer particularly rich sensory experiences. Birds, wind, water, changing light, and seasonal sounds create environments that are constantly shifting without requiring us to respond or perform. For some people, spending time in these environments can provide opportunities to slow down, notice, move, and reconnect.
SoundWell explores these experiences with curiosity rather than assuming that one environment, sound, or sensory experience will affect everyone in the same way. Our responses to environments are personal and shaped by context, history, sensory preferences, accessibility, and circumstance.
